Characteristics of PEI material

PEI is an amorphous, high-performance engineering thermoplastic that sits at the top of engineering plastics. Its molecular structure contains both aromatic amine functional groups and ether structures, with aromatic and imide rings giving it stiff creep resistance and high-temperature stability, and ether bonds giving it the supple properties required for thermoplastic molding. This rigid construction provides a unique combination of properties for this translucent (amber) material.
(1) Good thermal stability, glass transition temperature is 217°C, long-term use temperature can reach 170°C;
(2) Excellent dimensional stability, low and stable coefficient of linear thermal expansion in a wide range of temperatures, so the ambient temperature has little effect on the size, no deformation when used at higher temperatures and under load, and low creep sensitivity;

(3) Excellent mechanical strength and modulus;
(4) Outstanding electrical properties, which can remain basically constant in a wide range of temperature (-40°C~150°C) and frequency, with stable dielectric constant and dielectric loss;
(5) Excellent infrared light transmittance and high refractive index;

(6) Naturally flame retardant and very low smoke emittion;
(7) Excellent radiation resistance and chemical resistance;
(8) Unique plating capabilities;
(9) Good molding processability, low melt viscosity and high fluidity, can be molded by traditional thermoplastic melting processing technology and equipment.
The performance of PEI can also be further improved by modification, such as the addition of glass fiber, carbon fiber or other additives.
